Cadiz are set to enter their fourth straight La Liga season, which is their best run since the early 1990s. Last season, the Yellow Submarine’s battle for survival went down the wire and a 1-1 draw in their final league-match against Elche on June 4 proved to be decisive, as they finished just two points clear of the drop zone. CAD returned for the pre-season mid-way through July and went on to play seven friendlies, recording six wins a solitary defeat in the process. A week ago, Sergio Gonzalez’s side got the better of Lecce 3-1 on penalties after the game ended 1-1 in regulation time. Meanwhile, El Submarino Amarillo have been active in the transfer market this summer, bringing in the likes of Gonzalo Escalante, Sergi Guardiola and Darwin Machis among others to boost the squad.
Alaves, on the other hand, finished fourth in the Segunda Division last term, before getting the better of Eibar and Levante in the playoffs to return to the Spanish top division. The Blue and Whites had a mixed pre-season, recording three wins and two defeats from five friendlies across July and August. In their final preparation match away to Burgos on August 4, the Glorious One lost out despite the fact that Giuliano Simeone got on the scoresheet. Just like their Monday’s opponents, Luis Garcia’s side have been active in the transfer market, signing Antonio Blanco from Real Madrid, while Ander Guevara and Andoni Gorosabel have also arrived at Mendizirroza.
Cadiz probable starting lineup: Ledesma, Carcelen, Fali, Mbaye, J Hernandez, Sobrino, Escalante, Alcaraz, Machis, Roger, Ramos
Alaves probable starting lineup: Sivera, Marin, Sedlar, Abqar, Duarte, Guevara, Blanco, Alkain, Guridi, Rioja, De la Fuente
