Burton began their pre-season with a 4-2 loss to Hibernian on July 1 before getting the better of Stratford Town 2-1 five days later. Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s side went down against newly-promoted Premier League side Nottingham Forest courtesy of Steve Cook’s lone goal. The Brewers will also take on Brackley Town and Sheffield United before their League One opener against Wycombe on July 30. Birmingham, on the other hand, will play Cheltenham and Rayo Vallecano before facing Luton Town in their Championship opener on July 30.
Burton centre-back Sam Hughes is expected to get some game-time on Saturday, in order to regain his match-fitness after recovering from an ACL injury. Head coach Hasselbaink is likley to rotate his squad in order to build fitness. New signing goalkeeper Viljami Sinisalo could keep his place in the starting eleven. As for Birmingham, Adan George is nursing an ACL injury. Loan signings Dion Sanderson and Przemyslaw are expected to find a place in the playing eleven.
