West Ham United will hope to build on the momentum they gained from the mid-week triumph. The Hammers stunned high-flying Arsenal 3-1 in the Carabao Cup – a result not many saw it coming. That win became even more special when West Ham’s recent poor run is taken into consideration. With the club set to travel to Brentford for a difficult away fixture, manager David Moyes would hope that they can take confidence from their triumph over the Gunners.

Brentford, however, will not be easy to play for any side, especially in their own backyard. Premier League clubs have often struggled when travelling there. Hence, the job at hand will be a difficult one for West Ham United. Ahead of the clash, Moyes only had good words to describe their upcoming opponent. “Brentford have done remarkably well over the years. They continue to do so well and they’ve got some really talented footballers,” Moyes, quoted on the club’s website, said ahead of the match.

He added: “Sometimes I think they go under the radar a little bit but I think for people who watch them, you can see how talented they really are. I’ve got high praise for Thomas Frank and high praise for Brentford overall. They’ve come through the leagues, got to the Premier League, and haven’t looked out of place since they got here.  They’re a really professionally run outfit who do a lot of good things. Their team has been really successful and I don’t think anybody is surprised to Brentford get results.”

David Moyes on Carabao Cup

Moyes then reflected on the win against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup and their draw in the competition. “We’ve had a few good performances this season and then a difficult week, but the performance [on Wednesday against Arsenal] was good. More importantly, we knew we were playing a top team, and it was a good performance and a good result as well. The draw in the cup is always the most important thing. If you get a good draw then it can help you, but I don’t think many would see this as a good draw. Nevertheless, it’s a cup competition and we’ll take our chances. It’s always been so difficult to go to Liverpool but I see it as a challenge and I’ve always thought we’ve got a chance of getting a result there somewhere along the line,” he explained.

Since West Ham are in the Europa League, they often play their games on Thursdays and Sundays hence to play their upcoming match against Brentford on a Saturday is something different for them. “I think playing on a Saturday really does make a bit of a difference. Partly because that’s the culture and history of football in this country, although that is changing as we all understand. However, if truth be known, we’d have probably preferred this game on the Sunday to be honest because we played on the Wednesday night. We’re back to two day turnarounds again, but we turn up and play the games on the days we’re asked to do so,” he stated.
