Two sides battling to get out of the drop zone will be up against each other on Saturday when Blackpool host Wigan Athletic in an EFL Championship fixture at Bloomfield Road on Saturday. The hosts are heading into the match on the back of a 3-1 defeat away to Luton Town, while Wigan were beaten 2-0 by Swansea City. As of now, Blackpool are languishing at the 23rd spot in the English second tier standings, having collected 35 points from 41 games, seven adrift of safety and just one point clear of their next opponents, who are at the bottom (24th place). Meanwhile, the reverse fixture in November last year ended 2-1 in favour of the Lactics, thanks to James McClean’s equalsier and Curtis Tilt’s winner two minute from time.

Blackpool come into the match on the back of a four-game losing streak. Last time out, the Seasiders lost to Luton Town despite taking the lead through Andy Lyons’ 29th-minute effort. The Tangerines have recorded only eight league-wins this term and their latest success came against Queens Park Rangers (6-1), mid-way through March, courtesy of Lyons’ brace and one goal each from Jerry Yates, Curtis Nelson, Jordan Thorniley and Kenneth Dougall.
Wigan, on the other hand, started this month with a 1-0 win against Queens Park Rangers, thanks to Max Power’s penalty-kick inside the opening six minutes. It was Lactics’ eighth league-win of the season. Shaun Maloney’s side potentially need to win at least four of their five remaining matches to stay in the second tier. Goals continue to be an issue for this team, not netting from open play for nearly seven halves of football. Meanwhile, Wigan have a marginally better away-record, having taken 19 points from their 20 second tier games on the road this season.
Blackpool probable starting lineup: Maxwell, Lyons, Nelson, Thorniley, Husband, Carey, Fiorini, Anderson, Bowler, Rogers, Hamilton
Wigan Athletic probable starting lineup: Amos, Hughes, Whatmough, Nyambe, Darikwa, Power, Tiehi, McClean, Aasgaard, Lang, Magennis
