Burnley will be aiming to secure the EFL Championship title when they visit Ewood Park on Tuesday night to take on Blackburn Rovers. The Clarets are currently occupying top spot in the English second tier standings, having pocketed 92 points from 43 games, ten points clear of the chasing pack. The hosts, meanwhile, are sitting at the eighth position, with 65 points to their name, level on points with sixth-placed Sunderland, who have played a game more. Meanwhile, the Rovers are heading into the match on the back of a 1-1 draw away to Preston North End on Saturday, while the visitors suffered a surprise 2-1 defeat against a lowly Queens Park Rangers.

Blackburn recorded their fourth consecutive draw against Preston on Saturday despite taking the lead through Sammie Szmodics’s 80th-minute effort. Dominic Hyman’s 94th-minute own goal extended the Rovers’s winless run to seven games across all competitions. With just 10 points taken from their last nine second tier games, the Riversiders have slipped out of the top six, on goal difference. John Dahl Tomasson’s side are not out of the race for a playoff spot but with Luton and Millwall still to come , Blackburn have the toughest run-in of all their rivals. Although, Blackburn have the fourth-best home-record in the Championship, they have failed to win any of their last three at Ewood Park.

Burnley, on the other hand, have the best away record in the league this season, having won 11 of their 21 matches. The Clarets have already sealed their promotion to the Premier League and could have secured the second tier title earlier in the month but a three-game winless streak meant that Vincent Kompany’s side were forced to wait a bit longer for the crown. Burnely suffered only their third league-defeat of the season against QPR on Saturday despite the fact that Manuel Benson found the back of the net in the second half. It was their first defeat at Turf Moor this term. Meanwhile, the Clarets thrashed Blackburn 3-0 in the reverse fixture in November last year.
