Bayern are currently occupying top spot in the German top flight standings, having taken 59 points from 28 games, just two points clear of the chasing pack. The Bavarians dropped points against Hoffenheim on Saturday, despite taking the lead through Benjamin Pavard’s 17th-minute effort. Thomas Tuchel, who took charge of the German giants after the unprecedented sacking of Julian Nagelsmann, has managed to win just two of his five games at the helm. Bayern have just one clean sheet to show from their last seven outings, not a reassuring statistic before facing Haaland and co. Meanwhile, only three teams have progressed from a Champions League knockout tie when losing the first leg by three goals or more, and none since Liverpool’s thrilling comeback against Barcelona in 2019.
Manchester City, on the other hand, secured all three points against Leciester last time out, courtesy of John Stones’ fifth-minute opener and Haaland’s brace inside the opening 25 minutes. It was Pep Guardiola’s side’s 22nd victory from 30 league-games this term and they are currently sitting at the second spot in the Premier League standings, having collected 70 points, just four adrift of Arsenal, who have played a game more. Cityzens are in stunning form, having won each of their last ten matches across all competitions, while scoring a whopping 37 goals and conceding only four in the process. Meanwhile, Man City failed to win any of their away games in this season’s Champions League group stage against Borussia Dortmund, Copenhagen and RB Leipzig, drawing all three.
Bayern Munich probable starting lineup: Sommer, Pavard, Upamecano, De Ligt, Davies, Kimmich, Goretzka, Sane, Musiala, Coman, Choupo-Moting
Manchester City probable starting lineup: Ederson, Akanji, Dias, Ake, Stones, Rodri, Silva, Gundogan, De Bruyne, Grealish, Haaland
