Bayern began their title-defence impressively, winning their opening three games against the likes of Eintracht Frankfurt (6-1), Wolfsburg (2-0) and VFL Bochum (7-0), scoring a stunning 15 goals while conceding only once. However, the Bavarians are winless in their last four league games, having recorded three draws and one defeat. Bayern’s lone defeat of the season came against Augsburg in their last outing courtesy of Mergim Berisha’s lone goal in the 59th-minute at WWK Arena. The result leaves Julian Nagelsmann’s side five points behind league leaders Union Berlin.
Leverkusen, on the other hand, have had a disastrous start to the season, having lost four of their opening seven league games thus far. The Eternal Bridesmaids’ lone league victory came against Mainz (3-0) on August 27 courtesy of Exequiel Palacios’ opener and Jeremie Frimpong’s brace. In their last game against Werder Bremen, Gerardo Seoane’s side took the lead through Kerem Demirbay, three minute before the hour-mark. But Milos Veljkovic leveled the score for the visitors, eight minutes from time and shared the spoils.
