The hosts have picked up 13 points from their opening five league games and are occupying second spot in the Spanish top flight standings, just two points adrift of leaders Real Madrid. The Sky Blues, meanwhile, are languishing 16th position, collecting four points from five matches during an underwhelming start. Celta Vigo, on the other hand, have won only one of their first five top flight games this season, and their lone success came against Almeria (3-2) at the start of September before the international break. The Sky Blues secured all three points at Estadio Mediterraneo thanks to first-half efforts from Unai Nunez and Jorgen Larsen, and Williot Swedberg’s dramatic winner three minutes from time. But Rafel Benitez’s side were beaten 1-0 by Mallorca last weekend courtesy of Vedat Muriqi’s lone goal in the 85th-minute. Despite having more than 60% of ball possession and attempting 17 shots, Celta suffered their third league defeat of the campaign. Meanwhile, the last five encounters between O Celtina and Barcelona have been even steven, with both sides winning two games each, while one fixture ended in a thrilling 3-3 draw.
