The hosts are heading into the match on the back of a 1-1 draw against Sevilla in a Spanish top flight match last Saturday, while Atletico were held to a goalless draw against Club Brugge in a UEFA Champions League match, three days later. Athletic Bilbao are currently occupying third spot in the Spanish top division standings, having collected 17 points from eight games, just five points adrift of leaders Barcelona. The visitors, meanwhile, are sitting just one place below the Lions, with 16 points.

Athletic Bilbao came from behind to share the spoils against Sevilla, last Saturday. Oliver Torres put the hosts ahead inside the opening four minutes before Bilbao leveled the score through Mikel Vesgas’ 73rd-minute strike. Meanwhile, the Lions finished the match with 10-men as Ander Herrera received a red card four minutes into the injury time. Ernesto Valverde’s side have picked up 10 points from their last four La Liga games, beating the likes of Elche, Rayo Vallecano and Almeria, scoring 11 times in the process.
Atletico Madrid, on the other hand, were held to a disappointing 0-0 draw against Club Brugge, last Tuesday. The result was enough for the Belgian outfit to secure a spot in the last-14 of the Champions League. Meanwhile, Diego Simeone’s side are sitting at the third spot in Group B, battling with Bayer Leverkusen and Porto for the other qualification spot. Prior to the draw against Brugge, Colchoneros recorded two successive league wins against Sevilla (2-0) and Girona (2-1). Angel Correa’s brace helped Atletico get the better of Girona and register their fifth league-win of the campaign.

Athletic defenders Dani Vivian and Yuri Berchiche are sidelined with injuries, while midfielder Herrera is out with a red-card suspension. Inaki Williams is expected to lead the line with Nico Williams, Iker Munian and Dani Garcia in support. As for Atletico, Marcos Llorente and Felipe are nursing injuries, while the rest of the squad is fit and ready to go. Antonie Griezmann could partner Alvaro Morata up front with Yannick Carrasco and Molina occupying the flanks.
