Atalanta will host AC Milan in a Serie A fixture at the Atleti Azzurri d’Italia on Sunday night. The hosts are heading into the match on the back of a 2-0 win at Sampdoria last weekend, while AC Milan began their title-defence on a positive note by defeating Udinese 4-2. Milan had won the Scudetto trophy last term after a gap of more than a decade, while the visitors finished 8th in the 2021-22 Serie A standings, missing out on a Europa Conference League spot by just three points.

Atalanta kicked off their new league season by putting two goals past Sampdoria without reply. At Luigi Ferraris, Rafael Toloi put Atalanta ahead inside the opening 26 minutes before Ademoola Lookman doubled the lead five minutes into the second half injury time and sealed the win. Gian Piero Gasperini’s men were solid at the back last week, but the Black and Blues would need to create more goal-scoring chances when they face the defending champions on Sunday.

Milan, on the other hand, put up a dominant performance against Udinese to earn three points. Last week, at San Siro, Croatian striker Ante Rebic netted a brace, while Theo Hernandez and Brahim Diaz scored one goal each to help the Rossoneri secure the win. The visitors netted twice through Rodrigo Becao and Adam Masina. Stefano Pioli’s side had an impressive pre-season, scoring 17 times in five games, winning four of them, and would be hoping to continue the winning momentum.
Atalanta midfielder Ederson is sidelined with a thigh injury, while central defender Jose Luis Palomino is unavailable because of a failed dope test. Zapata is likely to lead the line with Muriel in support. Koopmeiners and De roon could pull the strings in the midfield with Maehle and Hateboer occupying the flanks. As for AC Milan, last game’s double-goal hero Rebic is likely to retain his place in the starting eleven as the target-man with Rafael Leao and Messias in support.
Atalanta probable starting lineup: Musso, Toloi, Okoli, Djimsiti, Hateboer, Koopmeiners, De Roon, Maehle, Pasalic, Muriel, Zapata
AC Milan probable starting lineup: Maignan, Calabria, Kalulu, Tomori, Hernandez, Bennacer, Tonali, Messias, Diaz, Leao, Rebic
