Algeria and Senegal will go head-to-head in the African Nations Championship final at Stade Nelson Mandela on Saturday night. The Dessert Warriors booked a place in the title-decider courtesy of thrashing Niger 5-0 on Tuesday, while Senegal got the better of Madagascar 1-0 in their semi-final match, on the same day. Algeria have been by far the most dominant team in the tournament thus far, having not conceded a single goal in their last five matches, while scoring nine times. Lions of Teranga, meanwhile, managed to squeeze their way into the final, courtesy of two narrow victories in the knockout stages.

Algeria netted five times against Niger last time out, through Auoub Abdellaoui’s opener, a brace from Aymen Mahious, Katakore Boureima’s own goal and Soufiane Bayazid’s late strike. The result helped the Fence Foxes to extend their winning streak to seven matches across all competitions. Meanwhile, the Greens will be hoping to avenge their 2019 Africa Cup of Nations final defeat at the hands of Saturday’s opponents.
Senegal, on the other hand, are likely to be fired and will be aiming to secure back-to-back international trophies, having clinched the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations title, almost an year ago. Meanwhile, the Lions of Teranaga showed great resolve to defeat Madagascar in the last-4 encounter. Pape Diallo’s lone goal inside the opening five minutes was enough to separate the two sides at Nelson Mandela Stadium. After suffering a surprise 1-0 defeat to Uganda in their second match of the group stage, Pape Thiaw’s side have managed to register three consecutive wins, without conceding a goal.
Algeria goalkeeper Alexis Guendouz is available for Saturday’s match, after he served a one-game suspension in the victory over Niger. Neziane and Mahious might partner up front, with Belkhiter and Laouafi occupying the flanks. Draoui, Kendouci and Mrezugue could form the midfield-trio. As for Senegal, 18-year-old Diallo is likely to spearhead the attack, with Nbaye and Diouf in support.
