Two Serie A giants are set to face each other for the second time in less than two weeks time, when AC Milan host Napoli in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final tie at San Siro on Wednesday. Both sides were involved in league-fixtures this weekend, with the hosts being held to a goalless draw by Empoli, while Napoli got the better of Lecce 2-1. Meanwhile, Milan secured a narrow 1-0 aggregate win over Tottenham Hotspur to reach the last eight of Europe’s elite club football competition, while Partenopei thrashed Eintracht Frankfurt 5-0 in the two-legged last-16 tie.

The reigning Serie A champions Milan haven’t had the best of league-campaigns so far, collecting 52 points from 29 games, 22 adrift of the leaders Napoli. Nevertheless, Stefano Pioli has done a fine job to take his team to the last eight of the Champions League, for the first time in more than a decade. Meanwhile, the seven-time European champions got the better of Spurs in the last-16 tie thanks to Brahim Diaz’s lone goal in the first leg in Milan. Meanwhile, Lucianno Spalletti’s side thrashed Frankfurt 3-0 in the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie, courtesy of Viktor Osimhen’s brace and Piotr Zielinski’s penalty kick. Three unanswered goal at Diego Maradona Stadium extended the Parthenopeans’s European goal tally to 25 for the season, the most by any team in the competition so far. The Blues have also been rock solid at the back, having kept seven clean sheets in their last ten matches across all competitions.
