Antonio Conte has revealed that new signing Dejan Kulusevski has the potential to operate as a right wing-back for Tottenham Hotspur. Kulusevski played as an attacking player for both his former clubs Hellas Verona and Juventus. The 21-year-old is known for his good dribbling skills and ability to take on defenders. He can be deployed on both flanks and also as a number 10. The wing-back position is a problem for Spurs as summer arrival Emerson Royal had an indifferent start to his Spurs career.

Tottenahm were expected to sign a player for that role in the January transfer window. Adama Traore was seen as the man to come in but the 26-year-old instead went to his former club Barcelona from Wolves.

Conte suggested in his pre-match press conference ahead of the Brighton & Hove Albion FA Cup game that Kulusevski also has the potential to play as a wing-back. Tottenham brought in Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur from Juventus in the January transfer window.

“The two players are fit and for this reason they are available tomorrow for sure. To start the game I think is not right because they need to work with the team for a period,” said the head coach on Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur.

“For sure, they can come in to help us. Because these two players can help us a lot.

“About Kulusevski, he’s a good player. He’s very young. I think he’s a great talent. He can play as a No.9 if you want to play two strikers, No.10 if you want to play with two players behind the striker.

“At the same time, he has the potential to play as a wing-back on the right. He has good quality. He likes to attack, he’s good one-v-one, he can create chances for his teammates. A good signing for us.”

Kulusevski joined Spurs on an 18-month loan deal with a EUR 35 million option to buy from the Serie A side while the deal for Bentancur is reportedly worth EUR 19 million over three yearly installments, with a further EUR 6 million in add-ons.

Kulusevski was a regular for Juve during the 2020/21 season, featuring in all but three of the Old Lady’s Serie A matches and starting every game as the Bianconeri lifted the Coppa Italia, scoring and providing the assist in a 2-1 win over his former club Atalanta in the final.

The 21-year-old has made 27 appearances for Juventus in all competitions this season, but has started only seven of those and has scored just twice.
