Chelsea news: The Blues travel to Brighton aiming to return to winning ways

The Blues will be going into the match on the back of a 1-0 defeat against league leaders Manchester City on Saturday while Brighton played out a 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace on Friday.

Chelsea will be aiming to return to winning ways in the Premier League when they travel to the Amez on Tuesday to take on Brighton & hove Albion. The Blues will be going into the match on the back of a 1-0 defeat against league leaders Manchester City on Saturday while Brighton played out a 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace on Friday. Kevin de Bruyne scored a stunning second-half goal as Chelsea were handed only their third league loss of the season. Meanwhile Brighton had to come from behind to earn a point against their M23 rivals.

The Blues’ title hopes suffered a huge blow on Saturday when they lost to City. De Bruyne scored a brilliant right-foot curler from outside the box to earn three points for Pep Guardiola’s side. The defeat left Chelsea 13 points behind leaders City while Liverpool leapfrogged the Blues to second spot. Liverpool have two games in hand.

Thomas Tuchel’s side are going through a tough phase, having won only one of their last six league matches, drawing four times in the process. The Blues have the second-best away record in the division this season, collecting 23 points from 11 matches, but they have lost two of their last four league games on the road.

Brighton are now unbeaten in five games in all competitions, including their last four in the Premier League, which includes a 1-1 draw against chelsea on December 29. Graham Potter’s side has been tough to beat this season having lost just four times and sit at the ninth spot.

Team news

Tuchel’s side has been badly affected due to COVID-19, injuries and the Africa Cup of Nations. Reece James, Ben Chillwell and Trevor Chalaboh remain unavailable because of injuries while Andreas Christensen is out after testing positive for Coronavirus.

Meanwhile goalkeeper Edouard Mendy who won the FIFA Best Goalkeeper of the year award last night, has also been tested positive while away at the Africa Cup of Nations. Therefore Kepa Arrizabalaga will continue to feature between the sticks.

On the other hand, Brighton would be without Lewis Dunk due to a knee injury while Yves is away due to his involvement in Africa Cup of Nations. Therefore, Jakum Moder could feature in midfield alongside Neal Maupay and Leandro Trossard.
