Mumbai Indians, the five-time IPL champions, will be aiming to overcome the disappointment of not qualifying for the playoffs in IPL 2021.
Mumbai Indians are the best team when it comes to the Indian Premier League. Under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, they have won the tournament five times. After winning the IPL consecutively in 2019 and 2020, Mumbai Indians’ prospects of a hat-trick evaporated in 2021. A solid start during the India leg of IPL 2021 was followed by a poor UAE leg. After losing to Chennai Super Kings in the first match of the UAE leg, Mumbai Indians failed to reach the playoffs for the first time since 2018.
Heading into the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League, Mumbai Indians have retained most of their solid core. They broke the bank for Ishan Kishan when they bought him for Rs 15.25 crore. Having retained Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Kieron Pollard, and Jasprit Bumrah, Mumbai Indians have more or less retained their core.
With most of the matches being played in Mumbai and Pune, the home support for the five-time champions will be high. Apart from the likes of Rohit, Suryakumar, Kishan, Bumrah, and Pollard, Mumbai Indians have a solid base of players both young and old. Dewald Brevis, one of the stars of the ICC Under-19 World Cup 2022 for South Africa, has been a great addition. Apart from that, there are veterans like Jaydev Unadkat who add depth.
But, it is the overseas pace bowling that will be sensational. Jofra Archer, Daniel Sams, Tymal Mills, and Riley Meredith make up a potent combination. With Archer expected to be fit in May, Mumbai Indians’ bowling will be absolutely lethal.

Mumbai Indians are paired with Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Capitals, and Lucknow Super Giants in one virtual group. They will play all these teams two times. In the other group, they will play Chennai Super Kings two times. The other teams in the group are Royal Challengers Bangalore, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Gujarat Titans, and Punjab Kings. Mumbai Indians will play these teams only once.
The 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League will feature 70 league games that will be played in Mumbai and Pune. Wankhede Stadium, Brabourne Stadium, and the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai will host all the league games. Apart from the three venues, matches will also be played at the MCA Stadium in Pune. Although the playoff venues have not been announced, it is expected that Ahmedabad will host the four remaining matches in the IPL 2022.
