Dewald Brevis century gives South Africa Epic Win vs Bangladesh

Dewald Brevis’s stunning knock trumped Ariful Islam’s century as South Africa ended their ICC Under-19 World Cup 2022 campaign on a high. The Proteas chased down 294 with just two wickets to spare and with seven balls remaining. Bangladesh chose to bat and Mahfijul Islam got going aggressively with a couple of fours. When Nabil fell to Andile Simelane, Bangladesh was in trouble. But, Mohammad Fahim and Ariful Islam then counterattacked. Both Fahim and Ariful struck sixes and boundaries at will. The stand went past 50 but Fahim’s aggressive knock of 36 was ended by Michael Copeland. Ariful Islam went past fifty and he increased the aggression quotient. Ariful registered yet another hundred but Bangladesh lost wickets at the death. Their chance of reaching 300 diminished and they were restricted to 293/8.

Dewald Brevis Steals the Show

During the South Africa innings, it was the Dewald Brevis show. After losing Jade Smith cheaply, Brevis and Ronan Hermann continued the onslaught. Brevis hit Musfik Hasan for two fours and he launched Naimur Rohman for the first of his seven sixes. The partnership grew, with Brevis hitting Rakibul Hasan for a six and four to near his fifty. Although Hermann missed his fifty, Brevis went past the landmark. South Africa stuttered in the middle overs as they lost wickets but Brevis held firm. He neared his century with two sixes and a four off Meherob. Brevis reached his century and then hit two fours to up the aggression.

Matthew Boast blasted four sixes in three overs while Brevis also hit a couple of sixes to get the target down. Brevis hit a four and six off Ripon Mandal but when he and Boast departed in quick succession, South Africa was in a bit of trouble. But, Simelane and Copeland got South Africa closer. When they fell, Liam Alder got South Africa over the line with a six as South Africa ended the ICC Under-19 World Cup 2022 in seventh.
