Aaron Chia is a Malaysian shuttler specialising in the men’s double who became the BWF World Champion with Soh Wooi Yik in 2022. The duo became the first-ever world badminton champions from Malaysia. Together, they also won a gold medal at the 2019 SEA Games. Subsequently, they also clinched the silver medal at the 2022 Badminton Asia Championships. This was followed by the bronze medals at the 2020 Summer Olympics, 2022 Commonwealth Games, 2023 BWF World Championships and 2022 Asian Games. Additionally, both Aaron and Soh have also added two successful bronze medals from the Sudirman Cup. The first bronze medal came in Vantaa back in 2021 while the next one came more recently back in Suzhou in 2023.

But when it comes to the BWF World Tour, Aaron has not found much success that he had anticipated from his performances in the mega-events. So far, the Malaysian duo have managed to win only 1 title i.e. the Denmark Open in 2023. However, both Aaron and Soh have come runner-up on 6 different occasions. This starts with the Saar Lor Lux Open (2018) followed by the All-England Open (2019) then the Thailand Open (2020). In 2023 also they managed to reach the finals of the India Open, the Indonesia Open and the China Open only to be defeated in the finals. On the other hand when it comes to the BWF International Challenge Series, both of them have found no success in their initial days.

Aaron Chia is one of the upcoming and exciting talents in Malaysian badminton along with Soh Wooi Yik. The duo lost and won against many opponents but some of these rivalries have concluded in a very interesting head-to-head rivalry. Chia and Soh lead the head-to-head record with a wide margin against Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty. Meanwhile, they have a poor head-to-head record against Marcus Fernaldi Gideon and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo (2–9), Li Junhui & Liu Yuchen (0–6), Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan (4–8), and also Takuro Hoki and Yugo Kobayashi (2–6). Currently, Chia is busy filling up the gaps that he has endured on this journey. Naturally, an Olympic gold in next year’s Paris Olympics will be a good start to that.
