HS Prannoy staged a remarkable comeback in the third game to storm into the semis of the India Open 2024 Super 750 on Friday.
Asian Games bronze medalist HS Prannoy has stormed into the maiden semifinals of his India Open campaign with a hard-fought win against Wang Tzu Wei of Taiwan with a scoreline of 21-11,17-21 & 21-11. The match went on for 77 minutes and saw a see-saw result till the final point of the third game. At one point it was even looking that the Taiwanese shuttler will walk away with the game. However, Prannoy put all his experience into play to prevail till the end.
Prannoy dominated the first game to take it 21-11. However, the young Taiwanese made a stellar comeback to take it 17-21. The 31-year old subsequently recovered from a slump in the second game to eke out a positive result for himself.

“I think it is always tough to play against somebody like Wang Tzu Wei, who is exceptionally good along the net and attack. But I think it was important for me to get that first game because he is somebody who gets going right from the start,” Prannoy said after the encounter.
“That is why it was a little bit more of a different start today, and definitely it helped. The second game didn’t go really well but I am really proud of what I could do in the third set to fight back from that point where things weren’t looking good,” he added.
The Indian veteran men’s singles star will take on China’s Shi Yuqi in the semifinals of the India Open 2024. Shi leads the head-to-head challenge against the Indian star with 5 wins against Prannoy’s 2. However, being the orchestrator of India’s rise in badminton dominance at the international stage, it will be difficult for the Chinese to have an easy game ahead.
