Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu and world No. 8 HS Prannoy will spearhead a strong Indian squad at the Badminton Asia Team Championships 2024 in Shah Alam, Malaysia from February 13 to 19. The upcoming continental team championships will mark PV Sindhu’s comeback to competitive badminton after she was sidelined for four months with a knee injury.
The 16-year-old Anmol Kharb, who is the reigning senior women’s singles national champion, Badminton Asia Junior Championships medallist Tanvi Sharma and Ashmita Chaliha will be the other Indian badminton players in the women’s singles category.
The Badminton Asia Team Championships 2024 will be important for Indian shuttlers as it offers valuable Race to Paris 2024 ranking points, which will ultimately decide qualification to the upcoming Olympic Games.
HS Prannoy, who won his first BWF World Championships medal and BWF World Tour title at Malaysia Masters last year, will lead the men’s team. Commonwealth Games gold medallist Lakshya Sen, former World No. 1 Kidambi Srikanth and recently crowned senior national champion Chirag Sen are the other men’s singles specialists in the Indian squad.

Having won six titles in 2023, including gold medals at the Asian Games and the Indonesia Open Super 1000 title, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy/Chirag Shetty will shoulder the men’s doubles responsibility. The former world No. 1 duo will have support from the senior national champion pair Suraj Goala/Pruthvi Roy and Dhruv Kapila/MR Arjun.
The Indian men’s team has previously won bronze medals in the 2016 and 2018 editions of the team event.
