Yaroslava Oleksiyivna Mahuchikh, also known as Yaroslava Mahuchikh, is a high jumper who competes for Ukraine in track and field competitions. She won the gold medal in Belgrade 2022, making her the current indoor world champion. She also won the bronze medal at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo and two silver medals at World championships. Additionally, she won the high jump event in the Munich European Championships. As a result, she is currently the European champion. She was the under-18 world and European champion in addition to winning the gold medal at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games. At the 2019 World Championships, she won the silver medal while establishing a new junior world record.

In 2019, Mahuchikh remained relentless in her campaign on the pages of history. She set an outdoor personal best of 1.96 meters during the outdoor season, winning the 2019 Diamond League’s first meet in Doha to become the competition’s youngest-ever winner at the age of 17 years and 226 days. Mahuchikh smashed the global U20 high jump record twice – 2.02m and 2.04m – at the World Athletics Championships. With this, she became the youngest ever field event medalist in championship history at the age of 18 years and 11 days, overtaking Heike Drechsler. Drechsler had who won the long jump gold in 1983 at the age of 18 years and 241 days. Due to a successful outing in 2019, she was awarded with the Female Rising Star of the year in European Athletics.

Before concentrating on the high jump, Mahuchikh went to karate lessons with her older sister. She also competed in sprints, hurdles, and long jump before settling on the high jump as her specialty. However, when she initially began competing in the high jump, she couldn’t even clear 1.40m. Her career took a turn when she leapt over 1.55 metres at the Ukrainian Championships. For each competition, Mahuchikh weaves her hair into pigtails. Initially done out of need, this has turned into a pre-competition ritual for her, allowing her to focus and psychologically prepare for the event. Tetyana Stepanova has been her coach ever since she was 13 years old.
