Miltos Miltiadis Tentoglou, also referred to as Miltiadis Tentoglou, is a long jumper who represented Greece and claimed the gold medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Tentoglou didn’t grow up playing sports. He first dreamed of becoming a MotoGP rider when he was young, then a surfer, and lastly a professional parkour performer. The high jump was his debut competition in athletics. Tentoglou excelled in his debut competition, clearing a strong 1.80m. But when he attempted the long jump, the scenario was even better.  At the age of 15, he allegedly leapt 6.38 meters in his first competition. As he improved in the long jump, he realized that competition would take precedence given his improvement in such a short span of time.

Tentoglou, then 18, took part in the Rio Olympics in 2016 and jumped 8.19 meters and finished 27th in the qualification round. The following year, he increased his personal best by 8.30m, eventually winning the European U20 title in Italy.  Tentoglou claimed the European Senior Championship in 2018 and earned a spot in the 2019 World Championship in Doha. At the World Championships 2019, he struggled to reach his best form in a highly competitive atmosphere and finished in 10th place with 7.79m. However in the following World Championships, which were held in Oregon post the Covid-19 outbreak, he leapt a stunning 8.32 m to finish second and win the silver medal.

Tentoglou started his outdoor season in Athens in 2022 with a huge personal best of 8.60m, an improvement whose validity was questioned by many. He then astonished everyone by winning the Tokyo Olympics 2020 with a best attempt of 8.41 m and putting all of his critics to rest after becoming the Greek champion with a gigantic 8.48 meter leap in June 2022. He went on to become the European Champion, with a best effort of 8.52 meters, which was also his season’s best. He also set a championship or games record during the competition in Munich. In addition, he had previously won the European Championship in the year 2018 in Berlin.
