Avinash Sable, An Indian Athlete who specialization in the 3000-meter steeplechase, Avinash comes from a family of farmers at the age of six he used to walk or sometimes run 6km to reach school due to a lack of transportation facilities. He joined the Indian Army’s 5 Mahar regiment and got posted at the Siachen Glaciers in 2013-14 and later in Northwestern Rajasthan followed by Sikkim in 2015.
His athletics journey began with the Army’s cross-country running competition before Avinash Sable’s steeplechase career Amrish Kumar trained him cause Avinash was an overweight runner later Nikolai Snesarev trained him, in 2018 Avinash returned to Amrish Kumar due to few issue with training routine. Avinash Sable broke the 3000-meter national record twice within two years of joining the Army running program.
Unfortunately Avinash Sable failed to qualify for the 2018 Asian Games due to an ankle injury. Still, in the same year after recovery, Avinash broke the 37-year-old national record of 8:30.88 held by Gopal Saini by 8:29.80 at the national open championship in Bhubaneshwar. In March 2019, he set a new National record of 8:28.94 at the Federation Cup, leading him to the Asian Athletic Championship and World Athletic Championship 2019.
So far, Avinash has broken four national records in his debut international event Sable won a silver medal in the Asian Athletic Championship, and Avinash was the first Indian to qualify for 3000 meters steeplechase final in the world championship, Avinash made history as the first Indian man to win a medal in the 3000-meter steeplechase at the 2022 Commonwealth Games and was honoured with the Arjuna award.
