At the Indian Open Throws and Jumps Competition, the Triple Jump competition promises to be a highlight of the event, with Eldhose Paul, Abdulla Aboobacker, Praveen Chithravel, and Karthik Unnikrishnan all competing.
India’s top shot putters, Tajinderpal Singh Toor and Karanveer Singh, are set to compete at the second AFI National Throws Competition at the Inspire Institute of Sports on March 1 and March 2, 2023. This competition marks the beginning of the outdoor season leading up to the World Athletics Championships and the Asian Games. Toor, who holds the national record for shot put, will be aiming to find his form and make his mark on the world stage at the upcoming championships.
At the upcoming AFI National Throws Competition, Toor will face competition from other top shot putters like Indrajeet Singh and Sahib Singh, while Karanveer Singh will be looking to improve on his eighth-place ranking in the national shot put list. In women’s shot put, Manpreet Kaur, the only Indian to breach the 18m mark, and Manju Bala in women’s hammer throw will also be looking to resume their dominance.
Meanwhile, the Triple Jump competition promises to be a highlight of the event, with Eldhose Paul, Abdulla Aboobacker, Praveen Chithravel, and Karthik Unnikrishnan all competing. Paul and Aboobacker won gold and silver respectively at the Commonwealth Games last year, but the other two athletes are close behind. In the absence of M Sreeshankar, who won gold in men’s long jump at the Commonwealth Games, Jeswin Aldrin and Muhammed Anees Yahiya will battle it out for the top spot. With 16 events over two days, the AFI National Throws Competition is set to be a showcase of India’s top track and field talent.
The event is being hosted at the JSW-funded High Performance Training Centre, located an hour away from Ballari. This will be the first time that the centre hosts top-level athletics, making it an exciting opportunity for fans and athletes alike. The AFI National Throws Competition is just the start of what promises to be an exciting outdoor season for Indian athletics. With several top athletes in peak form and others looking to make their mark, fans can look forward to a season full of thrilling competitions and record-breaking performances.
