Twitter reacts as Olympic champion Shaunae Miller-Uibo announces pregnancy

The two-time defending Olympic 400-meter champion from the Bahamas, Shaunae Miller-Uibo, has revealed that she is expecting her first child. She shared the great news with her fans on the social media platform, Instagram. She posted the same with the caption, “New Year, New Blessing. We can’t wait to meet our little bundle of joy.” She further added, “Happy 6th Anniversary”, which implied that Shaunae Miller-Uibo and Maicel Uibo were celebrating their six-year anniversary. 

The couple married on Paradise Island in the Bahamas in the month of February in 2017. Like Shaunae, Maicel is also a track and field athlete. Maicel represents Estonia in the decathlon. He competed for the University of Georgia and won the decathlon NCAA championships in 2014 and 2015. Uibo won the silver medal and achieved a new personal best in the 2019 World Championships with 8604 points. In addition, he won a bronze medal in the 2018 World Indoor Championships in Birmingham.

Many athletics superstars like Shelly Ann Fraser-Pryce, Noah Lyles, Michael Norman, Dalilah Muhammad, Garrett Scantling, Wayde van Niekerk, Gina Lückenkemper, Yohan Blake, etc. all congratulated Shaunae and Maicel on Instagram on their good news. The fans couldn’t contain their excitement and hence, posted regarding the same on their Twitter accounts, congratulating the adorable couple.

Miller-Uibo has increased her portfolio since winning the Olympic title in 2016. She earned the bronze medal over 200 meters at the World Championships in 2017 and the gold at the Commonwealth Games in Australia in 2018. Miller-Uibo claimed her third consecutive Diamond League 200-meter final in 2019 in addition to taking home silver in the 400-meter event at the World Championships in Doha, where she ran a new personal best of 48.37 and set a North American record and made her the sixth-fastest woman in the history.

Shaunae established a new North American record of 48.36 in winning the 400m gold in Tokyo. She had placed eighth previously  in the 200 m. Shaunae’s triumph made her the only female woman to successfully defend her Olympic 400-meter title, joining Marie-José Perec. The 2022 season of Shaunae was equally successful. Shaunae earned the 400-meter gold medal in the World Athletics Indoor Championships in March. She later went on to win gold at the World Championships 2022 in Eugene, Oregon in her signature event.
