Tata Steel Kolkata 25K: History

Since its inception in 2014, the Tata Steel Kolkata 25K (TSK 25K) has become associated with running in eastern India. The TSK 25K, India’s first AIMS-certified event over the 25-kilometer distance, expanded worldwide in its fourth year.  The Procam International-sponsored running event has the city’s favourite son, Sourav Ganguly (former Indian cricket team captain), as the Face of the Event. The TSK 25K allows people to come together as one and form bonds with civil society. The event’s international Event Ambassadors include long jumper Mike Powell, diver Greg Louganis, and footballer Hernan Crespo.

Long-distance running icon Kenenisa Bekele of Ethiopia set the benchmark when the TSK 25K went international in 2017. However, during the most recent edition in 2019, both Guteni Shone of Ethiopia and Leonard Barsoton of Kenya broke the course record for men and women. The course is designed to take in some of the city’s most beautiful views, with runners passing via the Raj Bhavan, Eden Gardens, the Howrah Railway Bridge over the Hooghly River, Fort William Golf Course, and the Victoria Memorial before returning to the Red Road finish line.
