Christian Coleman held off Noah Lyles in the 100m at the Bermuda Grand Prix. Coleman clocked 9.78 seconds with a 4.4 meter/second tailwind, which was more than twice the legal limit for record purposes. Lyles was second at 9.80 while Jamaica’s Ackeem Blake was third at 9.87. Coleman, arguably the best starter in history as the world indoor 60m record holder, distanced Sunday’s field of the gun. Lyles tried to use his world 200m champion speed to chase but came up just short.

Coleman, the world’s fastest 100m sprinter in the last Olympic cycle missed the Tokyo Games as he was unable to pass a drug test. In the last meet, Coleman finished sixth at the last July’s world championships in defence of his 2019 crown. Bermuda was the first 100 m for Coleman after a long time. He was last seen in action in the 100 m during August. Coming to the tack, Coleman was brimming with confidence as he gave his interview to Lewis Johnson on NBC “I think I’ve got a good shot”.

The race at the World Athletics Continental Tour Gold event was classified as wind-aided. Even then, both Americans, Coleman and Lyles, raced quicker than any other 100m sprinters this season. Coleman in particular was yelling and pumping his fist after the victory, proving the kind of dominance he had on the track in Bermuda.
