The qualification procedure for athletics sport at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, which will take place from August 2 to August 11, 2024, has been revealed. The qualification process (French version) will be based on a dual pathway of qualification, with 50% of competitors qualifying through entrance standards and the other 50% qualifying through world rankings, similar to the qualification which took place for the Tokyo Olympics and the World Athletics Championships 2022 in Oregon. The World Athletics Council approved the qualification system, which contained information about the qualification windows, the number of participants expected in each event, and entry requirements.

The programme will feature 23 women’s events, 23 men’s events, and two mixed events: the 4x400m mixed relay and the 35km mixed team race walk. The qualification period for the 10,000m, combined events, race walks, and relays spans from December 31, 2022 to June 30, 2024. The qualifying period for the marathon is from 1 November 2022 to 30 April 2024. The qualification period for all other events is from July 1, 2023, to June 30, 2024. In the latter half of 2023, World Athletics will release the official qualification monitoring tool (Road to Paris) on the Stats Zone of the World Athletics website. The World Athletics Relays, the premier Olympic qualifying event for the relays, will be held in Nassau, Bahamas in April/May 2024.

Any athlete placed higher than the 65th athlete on the filtered Quota Place “Road to Paris” list on 30 January 2024 will be declared qualified for the marathon. Following January 30, 2024, the remaining 20% of the quota will be determined using the same dual pathway qualification rules stated above, without removing the athletes qualified as of that date. Any national Olympic committee may reassign a quota spot to an unqualified athlete if the athlete in the qualification window has attained a time of at least 2:11:30 (men) or 2:29:30 (women).
