Budapest will host the world’s third largest sporting event next year from 19-27 August 2023. The Hungarian capital, also hosted the World Indoor Championships in 1989 and 2004. Athletes will qualify for the event by achieving an entry standard or based on their world rankings. The qualification for the marathon and 35km race walk cycle begins on 1 December 2021 and ends on 30 May 2023. For most other events, entries have begun in January or July this year.
The number of field events will be increased to 36, from 32 last year and wildcard entries will be given to the winner last year for the Diamond League and com, World Race Walking Tour and World Combined Events. For the timings, the entries have tougher standards this year. In 2023, the auto marks for 5,000 and 10,000m are now 13:07.00 and 27:10.00 for men and 14:57.00 and 30:40.00 for women. Additionally, both in-stadium and road mile – will now be a qualifying event for the 1500m. The top eight athletes in the World Cross Country rankings will be qualified for the 10,000m.
