Athletics has been a part of the Summer Olympics program since the commencement of the games. It is considered to be the oldest discipline at the Summer Olympics. Its origin can be traced back to thousands of years ago. The governing organization of the sport, International Association of Athletics Federation was established in 1912. The federation’s name changed to World Athletics in October 2019. Since the Summer Olympics in 1924, the women athletes have been taking part in the games. There are four disciplines in Athletics.
1) Track events (Running; 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, etc.)
2) Field events (Jumping and throwing events- high jump, triple jump, javelin throw, and so on)
3) Road running events (Long distance running, marathon)
4) Racewalking (Long distance walking- 20km race walk, 50km race walk)
