Budapest is all set to host the World Athletics Championships 2023 from August 19 to August 27, 2023. Athletes from over 200 nations will mark their participation in this event. This is the third time the Hungarian capital will host the tournament having organized the World Indoor Championships in 1989 and 2004. The majority of the games will take place at the newly established National Athletics Centre on the banks of the Danube in Budapest. The marathon and the race walk competitions will be contested in the heart of Budapest. This will allow the athletes, Television viewers, and spectators to enjoy the beautiful sight of the historical areas of the city with the Danube in the background.
Athletes can secure a spot in the World Championships by meeting the entry standard set by the World Athletics organization. They can also qualify if they finish high in the world rankings in their respective events. The champions of the Diamond League 2022, World Race Walking Tour, World Combined Events, and the top hammer throwers on the Continental tour will get an entry but they must be chosen by their national federation. The reigning World Champions will be handed over a wild card entry. The miles (stadium and road mile) will now be considered a qualifying event for the 1500 m walkers. While the performance achieved by 5km and 10km race walkers on road will also be approved for qualification.
