The 25th iteration of this renowned competition will take place in 2023 during the Asian Athletics Championships 2023. After a spectacular 50-year absence, Thailand will once more serve as the host nation and welcome athletes from all around Asia.

This championship will be held in Bangkok’s illustrious Supachalasai National Stadium from July 12 to July 16, 2023. Athletes aiming to compete at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary, might use this competition as a qualifying event. The four-day competition will help Indian athletes get ready for the Asian Games, which will start in late September, and it will also serve as a way to qualify for the 2023 World Championships.

Murali Sreeshankar

Due to his outstanding performance at the National Inter-State Athletics Championships, Murali Sreeshankar has gained national attention. The 24-year-old athlete made a massive jump of 8.41 metres on his very first attempt during the qualifying round, securing qualification for the 2018 World Championships.

His leap was just one centimeter short of Jeswin Aldrin’s 8.42-meter national record, putting him on the verge of history with this amazing accomplishment. It should be noted that Sreeshankar’s amazing performance represents a personal best for the committed athlete.

Tajinderpal Singh Toor

Tajinderpal Singh Toor, the holder of India’s national record in the men’s outdoor shot put, won the gold medal on Friday at the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships 2023 in Astana, Kazakhstan, with a personal best indoor distance of 19.49m and he will be looking to replicate the same performance at the Asian Athletics Championships 2023.

With a 19.18m throw in the last Asian Indoor Athletics Championships in Tehran in 2018, Toor, an Asian Games gold medalist in 2018 and the outdoor Asian champion in 2019, took home a silver medal. In order to earn his first gold medal at the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships on Friday, Toor fouled on his first throw but made the winning throws of 19.49 in his third and fifth attempts.

Jeswin Aldrin

Jeswin Aldrin is another athlete to watch out for. He broke the national indoor record in the men’s long jump with a leap of 7.97 metres, earning silver for India. In the qualification round on Friday, he broke his own personal best of 7.93m. On his second effort, Jeswin Aldrin leapt an astounding 7.97 metres, giving him the early advantage in the competition. Aldrin, however, fouled on his last three attempts, allowing Lin Yu Tang of Chinese Taipei to win the race with an effort of 8.02m. The Indian athlete had to settle for silver after Aldrin’s final attempt, where he leaped 7.82 metres.

Jyothi Yarraji

Jyothi is a prime contender for a medal in the championship. She has brought laurels to the nation on multiple occasions and she will hope to replicate the same.

Jyothi Yarraji beat her previous record by 0.03 seconds as she finished the race in 8.13 seconds. Yarraji, who also holds the U.S. record for the outdoor women’s 100-meter hurdles, won Saturday’s qualifier with a time of 8.16 seconds. But in the final, Masumi Aoki of Japan, who had just barely qualified after clocking 8.51s to place eighth in the qualifier, sprinted to victory and won the gold in just 8.01s. China’s Chen Jiamin finished third in 8.15 seconds.

Tejaswin Shankar

On Day 2 of the Asian Athletics Championship in 2023 at the Supachalasai National Stadium in Bangkok, Tejaswin Shankar, the overnight leader, will resume his pursuit of his first international decathlon medal. On the first day, the national high jump champion won three of the five competitions, taking the lead with 4124 points. Tejaswin Shankar won the 400-meter run and the long jump competitions in addition to the high jump with a 2.14-meter leap to establish a solid case for himself. He will compete in the pole vault, discus throw, and 110-meter hurdle on Wednesday morning before competing in the javelin throw in the evening session.
