Former WWE writer Vince Russo was infuriated by a segment of chairman Vince McMahon with former NXT star Austin Theory. The segment opened up mixed emotions for the fans and drew flak as McMahon was seen challenging Theory to beat Finn Balor once again. He also mentioned that if he failed to get the better of Balor in the contest then he should still beat him black and blue. Russo felt that there was clearly something wrong with the WWE Chairman as he made some of the most insensitive remarks on RAW. He was also surprised that the punchline of the segment ended differently than anticipated.

“I swear to god, this is exactly what I had in my notes: something is wrong with Vince. There’s something wrong with this man. You know where the punchline was heading – and I swear to god – I’m shocked it didn’t go there. I’m shocked the punchline wasn’t Vince saying he was going to stick something to Theory’s backside. I swear to god, that’s where I thought it was going, like, ‘(mimics McMahon) I’ll get to your face and your head, I’m going to break every bone…’ What is wrong with this man? What is this?” Russo asked on Legion of RAW.

Russo further believes that the character shown by McMahon makes him look like a bully. However, at the match, Theory went on to defeat Balor and then attacked the former NXT Champion to stay loyal to the advice given by the WWE Chairman. It has been naturally seen as a way to impress McMahon and earn his faith.

Theory also mentioned at the backstage interview that he would have made his mentor proud and he is now aiming to win the Royal Rumble besides the main event at the WrestleMania.

“Did I make my mentor Mr. McMahon proud? Absolutely and guess where I’m going? The Royal Rumble and guess where I’m going after the Royal Rumble? WrestleMania and not only WrestleMania but the main event of WrestleMania,” Theory said in a backstage interview.

It should also be noted that it was McMahon who added Theory to the Royal Rumble match. The other RAW stars for the event to be confirmed are The Street Profits, Rey and Dominik Mysterio, Big E, AJ Styles and Kevin Owens.

Triple H had meanwhile formed a unit for the NXT which was supposed to be brought into the main roster after Vince McMahon made his way away from the brand.
