This week’s SmackDown started off with a bang as Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar got things started. Rousey and Charlotte’s altercation went to another level and it seems Pat McAfee cannot put a foot wrong as he awaits Austin Theory at Wrestlemania 38. SmackDown threw up some compelling talking points and we look at some of them here are as the road to Wrestlemania draws ever closer.

An unhinged Brock Lesnar is best for business

Ever since Brock Lesnar came back, he has adopted a new persona. A persona of a farmer from Saskatchewan. His attire and his demeanour have all changed and the fans are loving it. Universal Champion Roman Reigns opened SmackDown and was in the middle of his promo when Paul Heyman said that Lesnar was in town after initially telling him that Lesnar was absent. An irate but fearful Reigns made a beeline to get into his car and get out of the arena when the Beast showed up driving a forklift. He rammed the forklift into the SUV where Roman and buddies were and later flipped it over.

The Bloodline then got into another car only for Lesnar to catch up to them and rip one of the doors off its hinges. This drew a hugely positive response from the Charlotte crowd who were getting their money’s worth at the beginning of the show itself. The WWE fans are liking this side of Brock Lesnar whose mic skills have been underutilised by the WWE up until this point. The fans who were not so keen on this match after Brock won the Royal Rumble are suddenly starting to show more interest as we inch closer to Wrestlemania and that is down to an unhinged Brock Lesnar.

Pat McAfee is taking the right steps

Pat McAfee is a bonafide entertainer on the commentary desk. From the way, he introduces stars to his chemistry with Michael Cole, McAfee is doing a great job. He is scheduled to fight the rising upstart Austin Theory at this year’s Wrestlemania and has been involved in a feud with Theory for a few weeks now. Pat McAfee and Theory both got into a scuffle last week and the former was summoned to Vince Mcmahon’s office and was told to apologize for his actions.

What ensued after was a great bit of storytelling on McAfee’s part where he told how watching WWE when he was a kid changed his life forever and how he got approached by Michae Cole to do what he is currently doing. It drew a genuine response from the crowd till he was interrupted by his Wrestlemania opponent. Austin Theory tried to rile Pat to get him to apologise but Pat being the brash personality that he is took the apology a level further and started attacking his opponent on his upbringing and his attitude. This storyline is going someplace good and it is refreshing to see a compelling storyline. It’s safe to say that the fans are really looking forward to this matchup.

Ronda Rousey has still not tapped

SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair brutally attacked Ronda Rousey in the parking lot on last week’s show but Rousey for her part did not tap no matter what. Flair, who was in her hometown of Charlotte, North Carolina was singing her praises when out came Rousey with a purpose. Charlotte tried to attack Ronda with a kendo stick that she hid near the ring but failed and the brawl ensued outside the ring. After going back and fro, Charlotte then attacked Ronda with another kendo stick and tried to make her tap but that did not happen.

Then an irate Flair put Rousey through the commentary table and stood on top as the show ended. Both women have vowed to make each other tap. One is a master of the Figure 8 while the other has been a submission specialist all her life. It surely promises to be a great matchup when both women meet at Wrestlemania.
