Triple H shocked the world last week when he announced his retirement from wrestling. ‘The Game’ as he is fondly known suffered a cardiac problem last year and admitted that the reason for his decision was because the cardiac problem was life-threatening. There was an outpouring of support from the wrestling community with people from past and present rushing to say thank you to the 14-time world champion.

WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns was a guest on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday. When he was asked to comment on Triple H’s retirement, Roman had this to say, “H was very critical in this process, to guide me along. Before I met Vince [McMahon] and built a relationship with him, it was Triple H. He was the one down there in developmental, helping guide talent along. He’s the one who overlooked everything. Now the developmental is called NXT, which is a great platform for us, and they have a big show themselves. Before that, they were called FCW, and the shows were held in a tiny warehouse. We were killing each other in front of 50 people for what felt like nothing at the time. But Triple H was huge in guiding me along.”

Reigns also said that Triple H always had faith in him and recalled a story from the past. “In the early days, I was always the type asking for raises. Every few weeks, I’d be like, ‘can I get more money?’ And they’d say, ‘Yes, sure.’ But there was a point when they were like, ‘No.’ And then I was like, ‘can you ask Triple H?’ And the next morning, they tell me, ‘you got your raise.’

“H has always hooked me up, he has always looked over me. Inside and out of the ring, he’s the best”, Reigns said.

I believe I’m living in the day of The GOAT within my own performance. I’m just constantly pushing myself, and for many reasons, I feel like I’m surrounded by the greatest and me as a singles competitor, as the Universal Champion, as the top guy of WWE, the face of this billion-dollar company, I’m the greatest of all time.”
