After many years, WWE’s current Senior Vice President, Bruce Prichard, unexpectedly shares some information about this. He said, “I do know Vince McMahon’s intent was never to ever let a contract expire with Rock. But if he wants someone to never leave he should extend his contract, right? Why did the contract face this 3-year resting on the shelf? The story of why this occurred is one for the headliners. As it happens, the WWE simply ‘forgot’ to extend the contract. I wasn’t involved in it, but I guess that somehow it slipped through the cracks. And somehow there is that black hole that somehow we did miss.”

About the brief appearnces made by The Rock

As we all know, The Rock finally returned to WWE in 2007. Since he has made these regular appearances. The most recent was on the SmackDown 20th Anniversary edition on October 4, 2019. His first official bout, however, took place at the Survivor Series in November of 2011. Finally, his return to WWE benefits everyone. The organization, the people that follow it, and, maybe most importantly, himself. But the narrative of what caused the break in his contract is one worth telling and understanding. Even though Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson is not aligned with WWE anymore, he is still missed. And for WWE The Rock is like Conor McGregor to UFC.
