Why did Vince McMahon sell WWE?

“It’s the right time. It’s the right time to do the right thing, and it’s the next evolution of WWE,” Vince McMahon said.

Vince McMahon says that WWE is ready for the next step in its growth. Vince McMahon and Ari Emmanuel, who works for Endeavor, talked to CNBC about the sale of WWE. When asked why he was selling a family business that had been in the family for 70 years, McMahon said that it was just time.

“It’s the right time. It’s the right time to do the right thing, and it’s the next evolution of WWE,” McMahon said. “I could probably do what Ari is doing right now with UFC but it would take me ten years. By the I grab those ten years, he’d be ten years ahead of me [laughs] It makes all the sense in the world for all of these synergies that we have to extract all of the value we can out of the marketplace.”

Then McMahon was asked, “If your sexual assault scandal hadn’t happened, would you still be sitting there talking about a sale today?”

“Absolutely. Because it makes sense. Nothing’s ever happened like this before. And again, I’m always looking for what’s best for our stockholders, what’s best for the company,” McMahon explained. “This is the best thing that’s happened in a long, long time. All of the WrestleManias combined, there have been 39 including tomorrow, does it really equal to the magnitude of what we will do together?”

Vince McMahon wanted this former WWE champion to fight Mike Tyson

Mike Tyson would later join part of D-Generation X before Shawn Michaels’ WWF Championship defense against Austin at WrestleMania 14. Tyson would finally expose his true colors during the match in which he acted as a Special Enforcer, eventually making the three count that saw ‘The Texan Rattlesnake’ raise his first WWE Championship. Yet, one WWE Hall of Famer recently disclosed that Tyson would have been involved in WWE issues before that date if Vince McMahon had his way.

Vince McMahon wanted Kevin Nash to box Tyson

Former WWE Champion Kevin Nash said on a recent episode of his podcast Kliq This that Vince McMahon wanted him to box fellow WWE Hall Of Famer Tyson in a charity match to be staged in New York’s Central Park: “He (Vince McMahon) had told me that I wasn’t going to lose the championship for years. No matter what, I wasn’t going to lose the championship for years. Then he starts telling me about this idea he had where I’m going to box Mike Tyson in Central Park and it’s for charity.

He’s going on and on about this. I said to him, ‘Mike Tyson will knock me the f**k out. He could conceivably kill me.’ I’m a boxing fan. A big motherfu**er like me, he can put two or three fu**ing shots, he does the fu**ing old hook to the body, hook to the body, uppercut. Goodnight Irene. It’s not going to do me any favors.”
