Lawrence Wendell Pfohl (born June 2, 1958, Buffalo, New York, United States) is an American retired professional wrestler, producer, bodybuilder and football player. He is best known for his time in WWE and WCW under the ring name Lex Luger. Luger is a two-time WCW World Heavyweight Champion and one-time WWA World Heavyweight Champion. He is also a five-time NWA/WCW United States Heavyweight Champion who holds the records for consecutive days and total days as champion. He is the second WCW Triple Crown Champion. Although he never won a championship in the WWF, he challenged for every title in the organization and was the 1994 Royal Rumble co-winner with Bret Hart. Pro Wrestling Illustrated readers voted Luger the Most Popular Wrestler of the Year in 1993.

Beginnings

Lex Luger was born Lawrence Wendell Pfohl and attended a school in Orchard Park, Erie County, New York. Back then, he was a promising football player. He joined Pennsylvania State University on a football scholarship. After his freshman year, he transferred to the University of Miami. However, his time at these universities was not too successful. He played professional football for the Montreal Alouettes in the Canadian Football League. Later, he signed a contract with the Green Bay Packers. However, he could not play due to injuries and other reasons. Luger ended his football career after playing for the Tampa Bay Bandits, the Memphis Showboats and the Jacksonville Bulls in the United States Football League.

Lex Luger in WWE

Lex Luger joined WWF in 1993 after he left WCW. He had a major feud with Mr Perfect, whom he defeated at WrestleMania IX on April 4, 1993. In mid-1993, Luger was made the fan-favourite character and renamed The All-American and Made in the U.S.A. On July 4, he reached the U.S.S. Intrepid in a helicopter. There, he showcased his great strength when he body-slammed the World Heavyweight Champion Yokozuna who weighed 600 pounds. However, he lost the title to Yokozuna at the much-anticipated and highly publicized challenge at SummerSlam 1993. Luger started a feud with Ludvig Borga in late 1993. On November 24, 1993, Luger, along with his team, the ‘All-Americans,’ challenged Borga and his team, including Yokozuna, which was called the Foreign Fanatics. Luger pinned Borga and won the match.

Luger was married to his first wife named Peggy until their divorce. With her, he has two children, a son, Brian and a daughter, Lauren Ashley. Luger was also in a relationship with Miss Elizabeth. Elizabeth and Luger stayed together as a couple after leaving WCW in 2000. After her departure from wrestling, she began working at the front desk at Main Event Fitness in Marietta, Georgia, a gym that Luger had owned for years after he and Sting opened it during their wrestling days. Elizabeth was advertised to make her first wrestling appearance on television since her departure from WCW in 2000 during the World Wrestling All-Stars tour of Europe in November 2002 and December 2002 alongside Luger.
