They defeated the British Bulldogs for their first of two WWE Tag Team Championships. They then split as Bret wanted to focus on a singles career. Bret Hart won his first Intercontinental Championship in 1991 by defeating Mr Perfect. He then won his first WWE Championship by defeating Ric Flair in 1992. He lost the title to Yokozuna at WrestleMania IX.
Bret won the 1993 King of the Ring tournament in 1991 and 1993. He is the only wrestler to win two King of the Ring tournaments. He then had feuds with Yokozuna and his brother Owen started to show up on his side. Later Owen Hart betrayed his brother and the two were involved in a feud. He won the Royal Rumble in 1994 and won the World Championship at WrestleMania that year from Yokuzuna.
Hart’s final match in the WWE was in Montreal and would be against his long time rival Shawn Michaels. That match would turn on to become the infamous Montreal Screwjob. Bret did not want to lose to Shawn Michaels in Canada for his last match with WWE. This resulted in Vince McMahon interrupting their match and deciding to give Michaels the win by submission. Bret Hart did not submit but the referee rang the bell on McMahon’s order. After this, Bret spat on McMahon’s face. Bret Hart then left WWE and joined WCW.
He later returned to the WWE in 2009 and started an on-screen feud with Vince McMahon. After that, he won the United States Championship. He also became the general manager of Raw.
