Roy Wayne Farris also known as The Honky Tonk Man was born in Tennessee USA on January 25, 1953. and started wrestling in 1977. In his early years, he worked in Malden, Missouri where he wrestled along with his training partner Koko B. Ware for a promoter named Henry Rogers. He then moved to Memphis Wrestling in 1978 where he would mostly work as a jobber. The first breakthrough in his career would come when he teamed with Larry Latham and formed a team called The Blond Bombers.

Honky Tonk Man’s career

Honky Tonk Man began his wrestling career in 1977, working in various regional promotions across the United States. He initially wrestled under his real name, Roy Wayne Farris, and later adopted the ring name “Dynamite” Wayne Farris. He found success in the Memphis wrestling scene, where he teamed up with Larry Latham to form the tag team “The Blond Bombers.” The duo won the AWA Southern Tag Team Championship on two occasions.

In the early 1980s, Farris moved on to wrestle for the Mid-South Wrestling promotion, where he adopted the “Honky Tonk Man” persona. He was inspired by Elvis Presley and developed a character that combined elements of rock ‘n’ roll and professional wrestling. His flashy outfits, signature sideburns, and guitar became his trademarks, and he quickly gained popularity with fans.

Initially, Honky Tonk Man entered WWE as a babyface, portraying an Elvis Presley-inspired character. He was energetic and openly criticized heels such as manager Bobby “the Brain” Heenan. However, he was soon turned into a villain. In 1987, Honky Tonk Man defeated Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat for the Intercontinental Championship, using the ropes for leverage in a shocking upset.

After winning the title, he declared himself the greatest Intercontinental Champion of all time. His villainous tactics and cunning ways helped him retain the Intercontinental Championship for almost 454 days which is an unbeaten record to this day. Honky Tonk Man continued to wrestle for the WWF  till the early 1990s.

Throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, Honky Tonk Man made occasional appearances in WWE, often participating in special events and nostalgic segments. These appearances allowed him to reconnect with the WWE Universe and remind fans of his legendary career.

The Honky Tonk man has been in the wrestling industry for a long time and has managed to become one of the legends of the WWE legends. He stands alongside the likes of Hulk Hogan, Undertaker, and many other certified legends and boasts a huge fan following. Many of his fans wonder whether the old legend is married or not. He is currently married to Tammy Farris. Both of them have been married since 1984 and even have two children together.
