On Friday, Triple H announced his retirement from in-ring competition and left the wrestling world in shock. He cited cardiac issues as the reason for his sudden retirement from the sport. The Game had a hall of fame-worthy career and was a legendary performer in the ring and had 5 star matches regularly. In this article, we look back at some of the best moments from the career of Triple H.

Return in 2002

On January 7, 2002, Madison Square Garden heard one of its loudest cheers and that was for the return of Triple H. Triple H got injured and tore his quadricep the previous year and was out for 8 months which meant that he missed the Invasion storyline. The injury was so bad that he couldn’t put his weight on the injured leg.

But days before the 2002 Royal Rumble, ‘The Game’ made an emphatic return at the famed Madison Square Garden in New York. The fans went into a frenzy when his music hit and a deafening pop ensued as they had waited for his return for the last 8 months. HHH went on to win the Royal Rumble by tossing out Kurt Angle and main evented WrestleMania 18 where he beat Chris Jericho to become the Undisputed WWE Champion.

14th World Title

Seth Rollins suffered an injury and had to relinquish his WWE title. Roman Reigns then defeated Dean Ambrose at the Survivor Series pay-per-view to win the vacated championship. Triple H, who was a part of the authority came out to congratulate Reigns but got speared which then allowed Sheamus to cash in his Money In The Bank contract. Later, Reigns would go on to viciously attack HHH which put him out of action for a couple of months.

The World Title was on the line at the 2016 Royal Rumble and Triple H made an unexpected and shocking return. He entered at number 30 and eliminated Roman Reigns, much to the cheers of the crowd and Dean Ambrose to win his 14th world title.

The end of an era

Triple H’s match with The Undertaker at WrestleMania 28 will go down in history as probably his best match ever. Both the men were locked inside Hell in a Cell and the match went on for 30 minutes. The match had it all. From high-risk moves to near fall after near fall, this match was an instant classic. Add to that, the element of surprise with Shawn Michaels as the special guest referee.

The match was billed as the end of an era and it did not disappoint as the three men gave it their all in what was an emotional and physically draining match. The Undertaker won the match and it ended with three men standing near the entrance ramp soaking in the adulation of the crowd in what truly was a spine-tingling moment.
