Leati Joseph “Joe” Anoaʻi (born May 25, 1985, Pensacola, Florida, United States) is an American professional wrestler, actor and former professional gridiron football player better known by his in-ring name Roman Reigns. Reigns was born into the Anoa’i family to Sika and Patricia Anoa’i. His father Sika is a WWE Hall of Famer and was part of a tag team known as ‘The Wild Samoans.’ Reigns is half Samoan and half Italian. He also had a brother named Rosey who passed away in 2017. Rosey too wrestled in the WWE. As a member of the Anoaʻi family, he is a cousin to former professional wrestlers Yokozuna, Rikishi, Umaga, The Tonga Kid, The Usos and The Rock. Reigns attended Pensacola Catholic High School and Escambia High School, before going on to major in management at the Georgia Institute of Technology.

How tall is Roman Reigns ?

The WWE presently lists their monarch as being 6 feet 3 inches tall and weighing a massive 265 pounds. His actual height is 6 feet 1 inch, but the corporation frequently inflates its measurements as a marketing ploy. Nevertheless, there is no denying that he is a frightening presence. Reigns wields enormous power. However, despite his respectable height, there are other wrestlers who blow him out of the water. Commander Azeez, Shanky, and Omos, who stands at an incredible 7ft 3in, are the top three tallest superstars on the roster.

Are The Rock and Roman Reigns related?

To understand the connection between The Rock and Roman Reigns, one must go back a few generations. “Reverend” Amituana’i Anoa’i and “High Chief” Peter Maivia were extremely close friends, to the point where they considered themselves “blood brothers”, something which has been acknowledged by WWE themselves. This relationship led to a closeness which brought their two families together as one, despite no blood relation. Due to this, those on The Rock’s side of the family are considered as parts of the Anoa’i Family.

Roman Reigns in the WWE

Reigns signed a developmental contract with WWE in 2010 and was drafted to FCW. He lost to Ritchie Steamboat in his debut match in FCW. He got his first win against Fahd Rakman. In 2012, he changed his name to Roman Reigns. He made his main roster debut at Survivor Series in 2012 alongside Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose as part of the SHIELD. They attacked Ryback and helped CM Punk retain the WWE title and established themselves as the bad guys in the process.

2012

The SHIELD ran riot from 2012 to 2014 till they were dissolved. Roman Reigns started to appear as a singles competitor for the first time. He feuded with John Cena as the company pushed him to be the face but it backfired as the fans did not like him. Reigns entered the 2015 Royal Rumble and won, which gave him a WrestleMania opportunity against Brock Lesnar. At WrestleMania, Seth Rollins cashed in his Money in the Bank contract and took the WWE title. Roman won his first WWE championship in 2015 after he defeated Dean Ambrose at Survivor Series but that win was short-lived as Sheamus successfully cashed in his Money in the Bank contract to take the title away from him.

2016

In 2016, Reigns defeated Rusev to win the United States championship. He also won his first universal championship at SummerSlam in 2018 where he defeated Brock Lesnar. Reigns went on to reignite his feud with Braun Strowman, who was the Money in the Bank holder. However, on October 22, 2018, Reigns relinquished the title and announced his hiatus on Raw, revealing that his leukaemia had returned after 11 years of privately battling it and being in remission. Following this announcement, Reigns would go on an indefinite hiatus to receive treatment. On February 25, 2019, Reigns made his return to Raw, revealing that his leukaemia was once again in remission to a huge ovation from the crowd.

2020

Since 2020, Roman has been on a tear in the company as the Tribal Chief. He is the longest-reigning Universal Champion in history and is set to take on WWE Champion Brock Lesnar in a title unification bout at WrestleMania 38. He has won the WWE World Heavyweight Championship (3 times), WWE Universal Championship (2 times), WWE Intercontinental Championship (1 time), WWE United States Championship (1 time), WWE Tag Team Championship (1 time), Royal Rumble (2015), WWE World Heavyweight Championship Tournament (2015).
