The master of the 619 has had two quite different professions. Rey Mysterio was one of the major draws in the cruiserweight class in WCW. Nobody could fly like Rey, and he inspired many young wrestlers who weren’t as tall or as powerful as the rest of the roster.

Rey was able to be recognised as more than a cruiserweight in WWE after signing in 2002, as he was framed as a trump card among giants. His speed and high-flying techniques were still his go-to weapons, but instead of merely having excellent bouts with fellow cruiserweights, he could have amazing ones with everyone on the roster.

Let’s take a look at Rey Mysterio and his rivalries

Randy Orton

The feud between Orton and Mysterio began in the 2006 Royal Rumble bout. The Viper had other intentions for Rey after he survived for 62 minutes to win the Rumble. Orton would tease Mysterio and make inflammatory statements about the recently dead Eddie Guerrero in the weeks building up to No Way Out.

Orton’s mind tactics were enough to beat Mysterio and secure his WrestleMania main event position. However, Rey was inserted back into the match and went on to win his first World Heavyweight Championship.

Kurt Angle

Kurt Angle was the ideal opponent for Rey Mysterio. Mysterio’s work rate complimented Angle’s work rate, so when the two collided in the ring, it was a sight to behold. They also worked together early in Mysterio’s WWE tenure, putting up some great SmackDown bouts.

Their rivalry would result in a further incredible performance at SummerSlam when the two would steal the spotlight. They would later fight again at the “Grandest Stage of all” WrestleMania for Angle’s World Title, with Rey winning by pinning Randy Orton.

Eddie Guerrero

In both WCW and WWE, Eddie and Rey would have memorable clashes. Their match at Halloween Havoc is considered one of the finest in WCW history. Their rivalry in WWE, on the other hand, brought things to a whole new level. When Guerrero got upset with his inability to defeat Mysterio, he disclosed a family secret: he was the biological father of Rey’s kid, Dominick.

Eddie would torment Mysterio for weeks by wearing a “Who’s Your Papi” shirt. It all culminated in a memorable SummerSlam bout, which Rey would win. Eddie, however, died not long after their legendary showdown.
