Jerry “The King” Lawler in WWE

Lawler began his WWF career as an announcer on Superstars in December 1992. The USWA began collaborating with the WWF. He made his in-ring debut at the 1993 Royal Rumble, competing in the bout of the same name, which was won by Yokozuna. He had a rivalry with Bret Hart and the rest of the Hart family from 1993 until 1995. The feud began at King of the Ring when Lawler interrupted Hart’s victory speech and assaulted Bret.

Lawler claimed to be the World Wrestling Federation’s (WWF) sole legitimate monarch, and the two were supposed to compete at SummerSlam to resolve the controversy. Lawler, on the other hand, arrived at the event on crutches and claimed that he couldn’t wrestle due to injuries sustained in a car accident. Instead, Hart fought Lawler’s “court jester,” Doink the Clown and defeated him by submission. Lawler then assaulted Hart, demonstrating that he was unharmed. Hart submitted Lawler but refused to relinquish the Sharpshooter. As a result, the referee overturned the judgment and bestowed upon Lawler the title of “Undisputed King of the World Wrestling Federation.”

Lawler returned to the WWF on November 19, 2001, following a nine-month sabbatical. Vince McMahon reintroduced him on Raw as the substitute for colour commentator (and Alliance member) Paul Heyman, who had been sacked in the aftermath of the Alliance’s loss at the Survivor Series the night before. Lawler returned as a colour commentator on Raw and pay-per-view events alongside Jim Ross and SmackDown! with Michael Cole, until the brands were divided and Lawler became exclusive to Raw. William Shatner inducted Lawler into the WWE Hall of Fame on March 31, 2007.
