The coming week’s episode of WWE Raw could be pivotal in how the ongoing saga of Cody Rhodes‘ potential return to the promotion pans out.

THE RETURN OF CODY RHODES

Speaking on a recent episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer stated that WWE had pinpointed the 14 March show as the one they wanted the former AEW EVP back for. If that show passes by without anything from Cody, it’d indicate that a deal hasn’t been done yet – and perhaps that it isn’t even close.

The optics of Cody potentially appearing on the upcoming Raw episode are particularly interesting, as the show takes place in AEW’s Jacksonville, Florida home base.

Meltzer added that Rhodes and WWE are still engaged in talks over a deal. Creative plans originally had the former Stardust wrestling at WrestleMania 38 (2/3 April), though they are running out of time for that to come to fruition.

Rhodes has been heavily linked with a WWE return since departing AEW last month. A chaotic news cycle has unfolded, with recent reports casting doubt on the situation and everything from an AEW return to an ROH invasion of his former home speculated.

JEFF HARDY MAKES AEW DEBUT

Jeff Hardy made his expected AEW debut on Wednesday’s episode of AEW Dynamite. Hardy rescued his brother, Matt Hardy, from an attack enacted by former stablemates Andrade El Idolo, Private Party and The Butcher and The Blade. The live crowd erupted for Jeff’s return and the segment ended with the brothers standing across the ring from Sting and Darby Allin. AEW president Tony Khan subsequently confirmed Hardy’s signing. Hardy was released from WWE in December, but reportedly refused an offer from WWE to return two months later and receive a WWE Hall of Fame induction.
