The EST of WWE’S almost 400-day reign came to an end on Saturday as Asuka overcame Bianca Belair at Night of Champions to win the title of new Raw women’s champion. Asuka missed Belair during a mist effort earlier in the match, but she was able to pin The EST and win the championship by spitting the mist onto her palm and rubbing it in the champion’s face during a K.O.D. attempt.  The two first fought at WrestleMania 39 when The Empress of Tomorrow won an Elimination Chamber match and became the top contender.

Getting inside Belair’s head

Although Asuka occasionally utilized her new character to enter Belair’s thoughts prior to The Show of Shows, their animosity was mostly amicable because they were both well-liked babyfaces. The EST won and defended the title in a fun back-and-forth contest, maintaining her perfect record at WrestleMania. Following The Showcase of the Immortals, Asuka took a break from WWE programming, although Belair and she were both promoted from Raw to SmackDown during her absence.

SmackDown incident

In honor of Belair winning the Raw women’s title for more than 400 days straight, a championship celebration was staged in her native Tennessee on the May 12 episode of SmackDown. While it appeared like Asuka was there to express her gratitude to Belair when she interrupted, she actually turned on her heel by spitting blue mist into her eyes. After the attack, Belair yelled in agony, and Asuka subsequently confessed that she had used a brand-new mixture with scorching chili pepper injected into it.

The following week, after The EST rescued Zelina Vega from an attack by The Empress, Asuka tried to mist Belair once more, but Belair was able to dodge. At Night of Champions, the EST attempted to strike retribution, but Asuka triumphed and is currently defending a singles title four times on the main roster.
