Maja Ognjenović was born on 6 August 1984. She represents the Serbia women’s national volleyball team as a professional volleyball player. With the national team, Ognjenović won gold at the 2018 World Championship, the 2011–2019 European Championship, silver at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, and bronze at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. With the Serbia and Montenegro club OK Potar, Ognjenović made her debut in the professional game in 2002. The following year, she stayed in Serbia and Montenegro and helped Crvena Zvezda win the 2003–04 Serbian League Championship.

Ognjenović joined the women’s national team of Serbia in 2005. She participated in that season’s Potar 064 Belgrad team as well. At the Japan-hosted 2006 FIVB World Championship, she started every game; the Serbian national team eventually took home the bronze. At the European Championship in 2007, Ognjenović took home the silver medal and the prize for Best Setter. Ognjenović later played for Metal Galati from 2006 to 2008, where he captured league titles in both of those years. As one of the 100 most significant volleyball players from 2010 to 2020, Ognjenović was listed on the FIVB’s roster 100 in 2020.

Ognjenović was added to the 12-player roster for the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics, which will be her fourth consecutive Olympiad. Serbia won the bronze medal by defeating South Korea 3-0 in the third-place game after suffering a devastating 3-0 loss to the USA in the semifinals. When Ognjenović reached 300 matches with the national team, she became the first Serbian woman to join the 300+ caps club, marking a significant turning point in her career. She played a key role in Serbia’s 3-1 victory over France to advance to the semifinals of the European Championship. After losing to Italy 3-1 in the championship match, she went on to win the silver medal at the 2021 European Championship.
