Torey James DeFalco is an American professional volleyball player. He is an outside hitter for the US national team and Asseco Resovia. At California State University, Long Beach, DeFalco played college volleyball for four years. DeFalco won the NCAA Championship twice (in 2018 and 2019) and advanced to the NCAA Final Four each of his four years at LBSU (from 2016 to 2019). He received three AVCA awards: Player of the Year twice (in 2017 and 2019), Newcomer of the Year once (in 2016), and four First Team All-American honors (from 2016 to 2019). He was named the Most Outstanding Player of the 2019 NCAA Championships in addition to being selected three times (in 2016, 2018, and 2019) to the NCAA All-Tournament Team. DeFalco studied Consumer Affairs at college.
In 2015, when he was 18 years old, he joined the US Men’s National Team. Since the year 2019, DeFalco has performed professionally in Italy. With Long Beach State, he won the NCAA National Championships in 2018 and 2019. DeFalco won the title of AVCA Player of the Year in 2017 and 2019. He additionally competed for the US on the Boys Youth National Team (indoor) and the Beach U19 National Team. DeFalco committed to Tonno Callipo Calabria Vibo Valentia of Italy in June 2019 and signed his first volleyball contract as a professional. He signed on with Indykpol Azs Olsztyn for the 2021–2022 campaign. He entered into a contract with Asseco Resovia for the 2022–2023 PlusLiga season. The youngest players on the U.S. team were DeFalco and teammate Kyle Ensing, both 24. Olympic team for the 2020 Tokyo Games.
At the U19 World Championships and the 2014 Youth Olympic Games, TJ played beach volleyball. At the Huntington Beach Club, he played junior volleyball. From 2011 to 2014, DeFalco won four medals, including two gold ones, at the USA Volleyball Boys Junior National Championships. In 2013 and 2014, he received the title of Tournament MVP. The multinational specialty sporting goods company Mizuno has named DeFalco as a brand ambassador. Additionally, Torey James DeFalco has been appointed by Adidas as their brand ambassador for a “multi-year” partnership in which the sportswear behemoths will support him at all levels of competition.
