The 2023 FIVB Volleyball Girls’ U19 World Championship will be the 18th edition of the FIVB Volleyball Girls’ U19 World Championship. It is the biennial international youth volleyball championship contested by the women’s national teams under the age of 19 of the members associations of FIVB. FIVB is the sport’s global governing body. It will be held in Croatia and Hungary jointly. This will be the first edition with under-19 national teams after FIVB decided. In March 2022, it was decided to move the age category of the girls’ championship from U-18 and U-19. Athletes should be born on or after 1 January 2005.

Saturday will see Serbia take on South Korea in the FIVB Volleyball Girls’ U19 World Championship. Serbia is currently placed in the fourth position in the Volleyball U 19 World Rankings. In contrast, South Korea is placed in the twenty-first place in the Volleyball U 19 World Rankings. Heading into Saturday’s match, Serbia is coming with a defeat in a nail-biter against Poland (2-3). While South Korea is coming with a defeat against Japan (1-3). Let us see who has the last laugh on Saturday.

What is the format of the 2023 FIVB Volleyball Girls’ U19 World Championship?

Originally, a total of 20 national teams were going to qualify for the final tournament. However, in January 2023, FIVB confirmed an increase in participating teams from 20 to 24. Croatia and Hungary which qualified automatically as the hosts. Other than that 19 other teams qualified through five separate continental competitions which had to be completed by 2022. The remaining 3 teams entered the competition by the Girls’ U19 FIVB World Ranking among the teams not yet qualified.

The draw for the composition of the pool took place on 31 March 2023 at the FIVB headquarters in Switzerland. The 24 teams were divided into four pools of six. Hosts Croatia and Hungary, as well as the top six teams in the FIVB World U19 Girls Ranking in force at the time, were seeded in the top two places in each pool using the serpentine system. FIVB reserved the right to seed the host teams as heads of pools A and B regardless of their position in the World Ranking. The remaining 16 teams were divided into four pots of four. This is according to their position in the same Girls’ U19 FIVB World Ranking. In order to be drawn complete the following four positions in each pool.
