The fifth edition of the FIVB Volleyball Women’s Nations League began its action yesterday. The Nations League is a yearly competition for international volleyball players. The tournament will take place from May 30 to July 16, 2023. The decisive round will be held in Arlington, Texas, in the United States, at College Park Centre. Four volleyball confederations’ top 16 nations will compete in the VNL). It is one of the leading international indoor competitions put on by the FIVB, the organisation that governs the sport. There were some minor changes post which the final roster for the tournament was made. The changes resulted from the 2022 Nations League and the 2022 Challenger Cup. Australia was replaced by debutants Cuba in this edition.

Saturday will see Serbia and Dominican Republic at the loggerheads in round 3. Serbia currently sits in the tenth position. While on the other hand, the Dominican side is in a perilous position based on their current position. The Dominican Republic is currently placed in the twelfth position. Serbia and the Dominican Republic last met in the European Women’s Championship which was held after Nations League. In the last encounter, the Serbian side thrashed the Dominican side. The Dominican Republic eventually lost the game by 3-0.

This time however a lot is at stake, especially for the Dominican side who are on the verge of elimination from the Nations League. The Dominican Republic will enter the match after winning a nail bitter against China (3-2). The Serbian side on the other hand also won against Germany (3-1). Thus to look at it holistically, the Dominican Republic has its job cut out. However, both teams are going to give their all as this will be a knockout for both of them. Round 3 starts on the 27th of June.
