The league has a total of eight franchises namely Calicut Heroes, Kochi Blue Spikers, Ahmedabad Defenders, Hyderabad Black Hawks, Chennai Blitz, Bengaluru Torpedoes, Mumbai Meteors, and Kolkata Thunderbolts.
Bengaluru will host the initial 10 games of the league phase from February 4-12. It will be followed by 10 matches in Hyderabad, which will take place from Feb 15-21. All the remaining games will happen in Kochi from Feb 24-March 2. The semifinals will take place on March 3rd and 4th while the final will happen on fifth of next month. Kolkata Thunderbolts lifted the title in the end after overcoming Ahmedabad Defenders 15-13, 15-10, 15-12 in the final. The eight-team competition will be held from February 4 to March 5. During the round-robin phase, each team will face the other seven teams, with very game consisting of five sets. The set is won by the first team to reach 15 points. The side that wins 5-0 receives three points, while they receive two points for other victories.
At the conclusion of the league stage, the top four teams advance to the semifinals. Then the winners progress through to the finals and they compete for the championship. The knockout games will be played in a best-of-five format, with the winning team being the first to win three sets. The Prime Volleyball League also features two exciting concepts – Super Point and Super Serve.
Each team has the opportunity to call a ‘Super Point’ once in every set. It gives them the opportunity to double their points. If that side loses the rally, the opponents score two points. However, it is important to note that in order to use a ‘Super Point’, teams must call it before they reach 11 points in the set. The ‘Super Serve,’ which occurs when the ball lands on the floor without touching any of the opposing team’s players, earns the serving side two points.
